We are told that students, and young people in general, will be at high risk for the Swine Flu (H1N1 Virus). Viruses can spread quickly among young children in schools. College campuses are also very challenging in regard to germs passing quickly from one person to another. - Public transportation should be avoided (not a consideration if you are home where you are supposed to be).
- Bed rest and fluids are very important to feel better as soon as possible.
Students with the Swine Flu (H1N1 Virus), or another illness that can spread from student to student, should notify teachers that they are sick and it is recommended that they stay out of classes. Schools, from daycares to colleges, seem to be on high alert and posting communication updates regularly. They are also increasing the frequency of cleaning and sanitizing.
You should stay away from others as much as possible if you have the flu. It can be easily spread. The only people you should come into contact with are medical professionals if you need to seek medical care.
Some preventive ideas are paying close attention to personal hygiene. The U.S. Health Department listed some prevention ideas such as cleaning your hands frequently, and sneezing into one’s sleeve and not into your hand (as previously taught). I think the sneezing makes a lot of sense and wonder why it took us so long to change our thoughts on this.
If you think about it, when you sneeze into your hands, you may prevent particles from flying out into the room, but your hands touch a lot of surfaces that other people will also touch. If we don’t wash our hands every time we would sneeze into them, germs can spread quickly.
